Although the City of Galveston is now allowing people back to the island, many areas still do not have electrical power - including Casa del Mar. We are diligently working to set up the necessary connections between our temporary generator and the nearly 300 individual electric meters we have on the property.
During initial inspections, we have seen no evidence of physical damage inside the units, however, due to lack of electrical power, private owners should be prepared to come inspect their units and remove any non-perishable items. The dumpster located on our property may only be used for household rubbish, no machines, equipment, etc. Galveston does not, yet, have trash removal service.
At this time, no one should be occupying their units. Rental owners have no need to inspect their units as the Rental Association oversaw that those units were all vacated prior to the storm.
We are continuing to work toward restoring normal electrical service to the property; however, the main electrical distribution system located in the parking areas was submerged in the storm surge. As this consisted of salt water, we will be required to replace this equipment prior to normal electrical service being restored.
We will post necessary insurance claim forms on this site as they become available. A Notification of Claim was filed with all of our various insurance companies on Monday, September 15, 2008. We are currently working with four adjusters attempting to simplify the claims process.
